Why are you asking me about the environmental issues?we are encountered with more serious threats then this.Dozens of people killed every day through target killing in the roads of Karachi which is very a direct threat to our life then the environmental issues.’Arbaz Khan narrated me his story when I asked him about possible environmental threats to the people of Karachi.Indeed Karachi city nowadays going through alarming situation where ordinary men are being killed every day with out any possible reason.The situation is so scary that no one is ready to comment openly about what is going on inside the city.There would be obviously different reasons why the situation is like this,but one reason is the political parties themselves.
The three ruling political parties (MQM,PPP,ANP) have divided the city among each other on the basis of the vote bank they have in respective areas. While roaming inside the city one can easily differentiate this division through banners and wall chacking. If you see portraits of Altaf Hussain then be sure this is MQM area and if you see ANP wall chaking then be sure this is their premises.Where there is no MQM and ANP there the PPP have the vote bank.While there are a lot of more areas where non of these political parties have strong hold and the security situation in these areas is worse of its kind.
The political situation and the attitude of the political parties had never been like this in the past,says Muhammad Arif a medicine shop owner who is also a native inhabitant of Karachi.The political parties never kept permanent political workers in the past.How the afford permanent political workers?i never find the answer to this question he added.
The level of distrust and hatred between ANP and MQM is very high and political workers of both parties can not visit each other's political jurisdictions.Our buses are burnt into ashes if during any political mishap we are stuck in MQM area say Rizwan who belongs to Khyber Agency and is driver in Karachi since 30 years .It is also pertinent to mention here that majority of the transport in Karachi is owned and run by Pashtun drivers and transporters.
The two political parties MQM and ANP are struggling to gain hold in the areas where both of them have no strong presence so far.In this competition the PPP is also not far behind to increase its vote bank specially in the Baloch and Sindhi dominated areas says Ajmal Qureshi,a local trader.
In order to increase their political jurisdictions and have strong hold in their areas these political parties even support some malafied activities of their political workers due to which the street crimes on increase added Qureshi. He further says that due to political support of respective workers the ratio of their criminal activities increasing day by day.The political parties need to change their this attitude for peace in Karachi he emphasized.
On one side if these three main stream political parties trying to hold and increase their vote bank through all means wither legal or illegal,on the other the religio-political parties are trying to influence the people in Karachi through their political agendas.The fact is that these religio-political parties have got some success in their struggle to mold the public opinion at this stage says Rahim Bukhs a political worker from one of the nationalist parties in Sindh. Bukhs says for complete and eternal peace in Sindh the people here need to support the Sindh based nationalist parties.
